Bio: (Xingyu) Sun Kordel
Sun Kordel serves as Director of Financial
Services of the Aspen Institute Inc. since 2010. Sun is responsible for
developing and implementing policies and processes of Federal compliance,
financial services and analysis to all Aspen programs, and
Institutional operations in grant and contract administration in particular.
Most recently, Sun was Director of
Finance and Management and a founding member of the Global Economy and
Development Department of the Brookings Institute, a prestigious think tank
where Sun also worked in various supervisory and programmatic positions in the
Center of Northeast Asia of Foreign Policy and, separately, in the Center on
Social and Economic Dynamics of Economic Policy.
Previously, Sun worked for the Foreign
Investment and Loan Office (FILO) in the Chinese Education Commission on World
Bank-funded educational projects. She participated and facilitated in
negotiation and implementation of numerous educational projects including
“Higher Education Project II, Elementary School Textbook Reform, and Secondary
Teachers Education for Developing Provinces,” etc., and served as interpreter
of ministerial-level discussions.
Prior to FILO, Sun lectured in English
Language Department of Zibo Teachers College that later was incorporated in the
School of Foreign Language of Shandong University of Technology.
Sun holds a Master Degree in Education
Administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, B.A. of English
Language and Literature of Shandong Teachers University, and a business diploma
from Allegheny Business School of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a
recipient of the Fellowship of International Career Advancement Program of
University of Colorado. Sun resides
in Potomac, Maryland with her husband and son.
